A. Lectures:
Methods of description and analysis of stratigraphic series. Pre-Alpine, Alpine and Metallipic deposits. Paleogeographic integration of stratigraphic series of the Hellenides, on the margins and oceanic sites of Tethys. Stratigraphy and Tectonics. Paleogeographic evolution of the Hellenides. Evolution of phases in geological time. Identification of units by studying the evolution of their sedimentary sequences. Classification of the Hellenides in the Alpine system. Paleogeographic models of Hellenides evolution.
B. Practical Exercises:
Laboratory preparation of samples from the stratigraphic series of the Hellenides, microscopic study of characteristic phases from the sedimentary sequences of the different units of the Hellenides, characteristic biophases and lithophases of the different series - determination of age and paleoenvironment, construction of columns from geological maps, deepening the knowledge of the stratigraphy of the Hellenides and the development of digital skills. Critical study of original literature.

The assessment process is conducted in Greek (there is the pos-sibility of examination in English for Erasmus students).
Ι. THEORETICAL SECTION:
the grade is based on the written group work and its public presentation (50%)
II. LABORATORY PART:
individual projects with a bibliographical or laboratory theme are assessed (50%)
The criteria are presented and explained to students during the first lesson (introduction)
Suggested Bibliography:
Additional bibliographic resources and lecture contents are available to students participating in the course through the relevant course website in (e-class) platform.
1 V.S.: Visitor Students (e.g. ERASMUS)
The course covers topics on analytic description and detailed knowledge of the stratigraphy of the Hellenides and the correlation of the stratigraphic sequences with the associated depositional environments, aiming to the paleogeographic reconstruction during various geological periods.
Methods of description and analysis of stratigraphic sequences. Pre-alpine, alpine and post-alpine deposits. Paleogeographic integration of the stratigraphic sequences of the Hellenides, in the margins and in the oceanic areas of Tethys. Stratigraphy and Tectonics. Paleogeographic evolution of the Hellenides. Evolution of facies in the geological time. Identification of units from the study of the evolution of their sedimentary sequences. Integration of Hellenides into the alpine system. Paleogeographic models of the evolution of Hellenides.
