Course Content

The aim of this advanced course is to understand the usefulness of several Remote Sensing data (digital and analogue) and get familiar with the appropriate hardware and software including image processing tools. The training of students is taking place through lectures and practical exercises on PCs equipped with specialized software. Getting familiar with data from different sources (satellites, aerial, UAS, LiDAR) and interpreting them, along with the interaction with Geographical Information Systems and final map synthesis and composition are the general objectives. The students gain skills in selected topics related to the mathematical (quantitative) aspect of geo-sciences while familiarizing themselves with earth observation tools and digital remote sensing data analysis.

Basic principles of Remote Sensing; Electromagnetic spectrum; Sensors, Satellites, Orbits; Types of resolutions; Spectral analysis; Band ratios; Data corrections; Image processing; Histograms; Multi-temporal observation; GNSS data processing; Unmanned Aerial System data acquisition and Photogrammetric processing; LiDAR data acquisition and basic processing; Analog aerial photographs; Stereoscopy; Photo-geological interpretation.
