Course Content

The course focuses on the environmental behaviour of potentially toxic elements and compounds in the rock – soil – water – atmosphere system. The sources, release and dispersion of harmful chemical elements in the surface environment are examined, giving emphasis to the life cycle of trace elements and nutrients (C, N, P). The course includes practical exercise of collection, treatment and chemical analysis of soil samples in the Laboratory of Economic Geology and Geochemistry. Urban geochemistry issues are presented that assist in the interpretation of the results of geochemical analyses conducted in the Laboratory.

Introduction, understanding of the subject of the course, environmental sampling media, environmental geochemistry and health; Geochemical analysis of solid samples - Dissolution methods; Urban geochemistry issues; Geochemistry of acid mine drainage; Treatment of environmental geochemical data – Instructions for writing of the report from the practical exercise of soil sampling and analyses; Geochemical cycles of N-P-C; Geochemical mapping.
